What are Bold Performance Schools?
Bold Performance Schools serve a high at-risk student population and have combined math and English language arts proficiency rates dramatically higher than schools with similar demographics. Citywide, only 31 percent of DC students meet or exceed expectations in math and only 37 percent of DC students meet or exceed expectations in English language arts. For at-risk students, those numbers are just 16 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Bold Performance School proficiency rates are at least 10 points higher than other schools serving similar demographics.
How are Bold Performance Schools selected?
These rates are determined using the 2019 Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) data and the Percent Proficient Above Expected (PPAE) calculations (using four sophisticated mathematical models) that project what percentage of students are expected to be proficient given a school’s demographics. The Bold Performance Schools have proficient rates for students at least 10 percentage points higher than schools with similar demographics.
